ORIENTEERING FRIENDS

Alicante opens its doors to all the competitors of The Junior World Orienteering Championship. From the city, the competitors will travel to Biar, Guardamar and Tibi where the races will take place. These towns offer a good variety of terrain as both mountains and beaches will be used.

EVENT CENTRE

Hogar Provincial de Alicante, a sports and accommodation centre..It is close to the main ring road around the city of Alicante, 3km from the city centre. The event centre has different kinds of meeting rooms and leisure activity facilities, including different outdoor sports fields and an outdoor swimming pool. One of the model event terrains is adjacent to the event centre.

The organiser should receive the final entry forms not later than 27th June 2002.Using the address indicated in the form. The hotel is centrally located at the foot of Castle Santa Barbara,3 kilometers from the Event Centre.

Location. 900 metres from the Event Centre.

Hotel Europa is a 3 star hotel located in the residential area of Alicante known as "Villa Hermosa". The hotel was completely renovated in 1997, and has its own restaurant, swimming pool, games room and sauna. Meeting and conference rooms are also available, with a capacity for between 10 and 100 people. The hotel is situated within 20 minutes of the airport, Congress Hall and Trade Fair, and only 1km from the beach. It is located 700 meters from the A7/E15 motorway (exit 68). Within 2 km, you will find major stores. The tourist and business traveller alike are guaranteed special attention. A parking area for guests is available at the hotel.

 

Facilities: The 141 rooms are all equipped with private bathroom, direct dial telephone, satellite TV, soundproofing, safety deposit box and air conditioning.

 

 

 

 

Category B: Dormitory at the Event Centre maximum capacity of 80 persons.

Dormitory with four bed sections, shower and toilet in the room.

One of the model event terrains are accessible by foot both from hotel Europa and the event centre.The other hotel is situated adjacent to the Santa Barbara Castle, which is lying on top of a steep hill which has a large scale orienteering map. All hotels have an outdoor swimming pool.

FOOD

Food will be served at each team's accommodation, except lunch on competition days, which is served in the competitio areas. If you wish vegetarian food, you need to mention this in advance in the entry form.

JWOC2002 RULES

All competitions are organised according to “Competition rules for International Orienteering Federation foot orientering events” valid from June 2000.

Deviations from rules:

Short distance B and C finals will have 1 minute start interval.

EVENT TRANSPORT

Transport from the Hotel to all races and the hotel to ceremonys will be arranged by the organiser at no extra costs.Its price is included in the entry fee.

GENERAL TERRAIN DESCRIPTION

Typical Mediterranean terrain, generally of two different types:

1.- Coast areas (La Marina and Guardamar): Sand dunes, of which about 70% is covered by pine forest. Soft relief with numerous contour details. Altitude 0 - 25 m above sea level.

2.- Inland areas (Biar and Tibi): Hard, stony ground with low vegetation that can limit the running speed. A larger part of the terrain is covered by pine forest, while parts are cultivated. Moderately detailed hillsides with some deep, steep gullies. Altitude 800 – 1.000 m (Biar) and 650 - 725 (Tibi) above sea level.

Mediterranean climate with daytime temperatures between 25ºC-35º C

The “SPORTident” electronic system will be used in all event. We would like to ask everyone having an SI-card to bring it whith them to the world Championships. Please, indicate the number of your SI-card in the entry form.

PRIZE GIVING CEREMONY

The Prize giving ceremony of the overall team competition will be organised on Saturday 13th July 2002 in Tibi at 20.00 hours. Other prize giving ceremonies will take place in the finish area after each competition. From 1st to 3rd place there will be medals and diplomas, from 4th to 6th place there will be diplomas only.

IDENTITY CARDS

Identity Cards for participants (runners, team leaders, press and VIP) will be issued at the accreditation in the Event Centre JWOC2002.

NATIONAL ANTHEM

Teams are requested to bring the audiocassette or CD with their national anthem an hand them over in the accreditation centre
