Profile of Japan team
Girls
Yuri Ishikawa constantly achieved good results in some of the big
competitions in Japan last year. She is currently living a hectic life as
a third- year university student, but she has managed to keep her
time for training and come to JWOC 2001 to make her first challenge
at an international competition.
Seiko Tajima is a sociology student and an orienteer who has made
steady and considerable progress since last season. She loves every
aspect of orienteering, e.g. navigation, running in the forests, and
enjoying nature. She hopes to enjoy with orienteering as a lifelong
sport. Her other hobby is Shodo (Japanese calligraphy), which
makes her fully relaxed and calm.
Sayaka Kawashima is a student of cultural and social studies. She
enjoys the thrilling moments of finding controls at the very spot she
imagined and hopes to fully enjoy the races in JWOC, where she will
experience orienteering in overseas terrain for the first time. She is
also a big fan of movies and even works part-time job in a cinema
theater.
Chiho Asai was not an outstanding orienteer last year. Recently,
however, she has been rapidly taking in and improving her
orienteering ability, and successfully got a chance to join in JWOC
2001. She sometimes makes an extremely funny remark and makes
others burst into laugh.
Yuko Sakurai is a second-year student studying childrenfs psychology.
She enjoys orienteering especially because of a range of possibilities of
route choice.@@ She is very fond of playing Japanese traditional game
eKingyo-sukuif (ask her for details).@@ She is skilled at Japanese fencing
eKendof(ask her to demonstrate it), too.
Boys
Takashi Yamada is the youngest member of this yearfs Japan Team
who has won the Japan Inter-High School Championship twice in a
row. Though this is his first challenge at an international level, he
has already firmly set his sights on some of the world events in next
3-4 years, including WOC 2005 (in Japan) and JWOC 2004 (hefll be
still 20 at that year !).
Toshiyuki Kitajima is a student studying environment and
landscape design. He has been longing to join in an international
orienteering game, being very much influenced by his senior, who
introduced orienteering to him for the first time. His motto in
orienteering is eto have a challenging spirit all the time and to keep
on going aheadf.
Yusuke Kuno is a student who is going to major in mathematics.
While this is the first overseas travel for him, he will continue his
eO-tripf for one month after JWOC to Fin-5 and O-ringen.His O
style is equick decision and quick movef, though ethis is not true in
my daily lifef, he said.
Morihiro Horie is the first Japanese competitor in Ski-O JWOC, who
made his debut in Folgaria, Italy (Feb.2001). He is an orienteer of
good potential with advantages in physical toughness and speed.
Currently, he is also devoted to motorbike and has a plan of
travelling all over the world by motorbike.
Takashi Goto is a university student studying chemistry. He likes
orienteering because the result obtained from it is directly
proportional to the effort he puts in. Actually, he has made
considerable efforts and preparation for JWOC.He also loves
football, which he could keep talking about all day.In JWOC, he
hopes to make lots of friends.
Hisashi Osaka has 7-years experience as an orienteer. While he
feels he has not yet exhausted all the attractions of orienteering,
eevery time I go out for orienteering, I discover something more
about myself through itf he said. Although his life is quite busy
being occupied with study, his part-time job and training, he finds
some time to relax when listening to music ( Jef Beck, David Bowie,
etc. are his favourites).
